DETAILS
Domaine d'utilisation
ROOFTHAN SEL is a system comprised of two products: ROOFTHAN SEL PRIMER and ROOFTHAN SEL FINISH with a quick drying polyaspartic resin base, allow you to create a membrane for a perfectly tight liquid sealant in less than a day, which can accept traffic very quickly.
The ROOFTHAN SEL system is compliant with the professional SEL rules regarding liquid sealant work on outdoor floors in masonry that dominate non-enclosed parts of the building, covering the SEL classes; SE1 pm, SE2 pm, SE3 pm
This system is intended for use indoors and outdoors and is suitable for sealing terraces and balconies with traffic (passageways, humid premises, kitchens, sanitary facilities, bathrooms), for sealing structures associated with the façade (ledges, caps, acroteria, strips, edges, awnings) subjected to substantial differences in temperatures (freezing/thawing from -20° to +80°C) or not (see specification for out ETE CSTB)
For any other area of application: ask Cimentol Paints for advice on info@cimentol.fr

- Mandatory treatment of crack openings greater than 0.3mm
- The coats may be of a different type and include a frame. It may be applied in a single coat, in case of SEL with a thickness greater than or equal to 1.5mm.
- This thickness does not include the additional coats, wear, decorative, anti-skid coats, etc. In light of the variations in thickness linked to the application, local minimum thicknesses respectively of 0.8mm, 1mm and 1.3mm can be accepted for minimum thicknesses of 1mm, 1.2mm and 1.5mm.
- In a mountainous climate, protection via wood plating excluded.
- Hard protection carried out according to the provisions of NF DTU 43.1.
Mode opératoire
-
- Preparation of the substrate
Applied to good quality sound, dry, mechanical solid and degreased substrates that are dust free and coherent. Preparatory work according to standard NF 74201 DTU 59.3 and 59.1. New screeds must have dried for 28 days. The nature, intrinsic condition, quality and preparation of the substrate are essential to guarantee adherence, efficiency and longevity of the CIMENTOL SEL creation.
Laitances must be removed with NEPSOL; grease and grime can be removed using SUPER DECRAS SOL. Mechanical preparations will automatically be followed by dust removal.
The substrate must be free of cavities, asperities or crazing which can harm the continuity of the sealing covering applied. If necessary, the largest asperities, holes, flashes will be reworked using the WATHAN EXPRESS Mortar kit. For repairing the finest parts, RAGREAGE WATHAN EXPRES can be deposited, even with a great thickness, or by combing with WATHAN EXPRESS COATING. Finally, rising from the baseboard or grooves can be carried out with the WATHAN EXPRESS coating.
If the substrate is highly absorbent or porous, a coat of our solvent-free two-component epoxy primer WATPRIM should be applied, making it possible to soak and attach the substrate in depth (see the technical sheet)
- Reinforcing of singular points
Before applying the ROOFTHAN SEL system, all points that need to treated should be identified, such as raised areas, edges and impacts, cracks, rain inlets, gutters, penetrations, expansion joints and to treat them properly in accordance with the APSEL 2021 professional rules.
These singular points to be reinforced will be done via marouflage with our fabric CIM POLYTOILE PREMIUM applied on a fresh coat of ROOFTHAN FINITION SEL.
Method:
- Apply a ROOFTHAN SEL PRIMER priming coat, 6 to 8 m²/KG.
- Allow to dry thoroughly.
- Apply a ROOFTHAN SEL FINISH coat, 1.75KG/KG.
- Install and unwind the fabric on the finishing coat that is still fresh.
- Maroufle the CIM POLYTOILE PREMIUM fabric well using a binding spatula or a roller, in order to prevent air bubbles from forming.
- Then cover with ROOFTHAN SEL FINITION to saturation according to the consumption required (about 1.75 KG/m²).
- Each strip, piece or part of the fabric is overlapped by 5 to 10 cm.
- Preparation of the PRIMER and FINISH mixture
Pour all the hardener into the base. Do not divide the mixture. It is recommended to mix in the original packaging.
Mix the two components perfectly using a shaker (max. 2 min). Mixing too long or too quickly will create bubbles and will shorten pot life time. Pot life time about 15 min according to outside temperature.
- PRIMER AND FINISH application
Apply with a 14 to 20mm roller, brush or scraper (levelled).
In case of levelling, it is recommended to add calibrated silica SF to the base in order to increase the product’s filling power.
Pour the product in small quantities on the floor and spread with a brush or roller, complying with the technical data below in terms of ventilation, temperature, humidity. In case of high temperatures, the pot life time can be extended thanks to doses of the ROOFTHAN diluent. (Ask us)
- Recommendations for use
- Once the base and the hardener of the primer have been mixed, the quantity prepared must be used within 20 minutes and within 40 minutes for the finish. It is highly advised to apply the product immediately after it has been mixed. The higher the outside temperature is or the higher the quantity of the mixture is, the more the pot life and the practical duration of the product drops. Lost time can be about 50%.
- Insert all the hardener into the base.
- Comply with the technical data below concerning temperature, humidity, etc.
- Do not incorporate foreign bodies (water, solvent)
- Do not apply the ROOFTHAN SEL system in rainy weather.
- Do not incorporate CAO (Coathylene) powder into the product as this would thicken it
- Local repair and maintenance
The Roofthan film can be “repaired” locally. However, the source of the disorder should be identified. Roughen the substrate to be reworked, and reapply a coat for the thickness to be repaired.
- Skid resistance
To reduce the slipperiness of the surface, it is possible to use our calibrated silica powder MG, to be sprinkled on the intermediate coat before the finishing coat, 100/150 gr/m²
Précautions d'emploi
- Safety/hygiene: solvent-free, non-flammable; keep out of the reach of children, avoid prolonged contact with the skin, wash hand frequently, do not ingest. For professional use only.
- Provide good ventilation of the premises during application.
- Comply with the instructions on the labels and safety data sheets.
Application of this type of covering falls under DTU 59.3. It is the responsibility of the applicator to ensure compliance with these rules, because they are engaging their liability.
